# List Embedding Models

List the text embedding models accepted by `embedding_model` on index create. This reads the service's model table — nothing is downloaded.

## Parameters

None

## Authentication

Required - API key via `X-API-Key` header:

```http theme={null}
X-API-Key: cyborg_your_api_key_here
```

Any valid credential is accepted — the root key or a per-user `cdbk_` token. When RBAC is not enabled (`CYBORGDB_SERVICE_ROOT_KEY` unset), no header is required.

## Response

```json theme={null}
{
  "models": [
    {
      "name": "sentence-transformers/all-MiniLM-L6-v2",
      "dimension": 384,
      "max_seq_length": 256
    }
  ]
}
```

| Field | Type | Description |
| - | - | - |
| `models` | `array[object]` | Supported embedding models |
| `models[].name` | `string` | Canonical model name. The bare name (without the organization prefix) is also accepted, in any case |
| `models[].dimension` | `integer` | Length of each embedding; indexes created with this model use it as their dimension |
| `models[].max_seq_length` | `integer` | Longest input, in tokens, before truncation |

## Exceptions

  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="500 Internal Server Error">

## Example Usage

```bash theme={null}
curl -X GET "http://localhost:8000/v1/embedding-models" \
     -H "X-API-Key: cyborg_your_api_key_here"
# Or with HTTPS
curl -X GET "https://your-domain.com:8000/v1/embedding-models" \
     -H "X-API-Key: cyborg_your_api_key_here"
```

## Use Cases

* **Index creation**: Pick a valid `embedding_model` (and its dimension) before calling create index
* **Validation**: Verify a model name is supported before deploying
* **Client UIs**: Populate model-selection dropdowns from the live service
